The pearl of the Aegean - that's what the 65 km² island at the extreme edge of the south-eastern Aegean is often called. Rhodes is an hour's boat ride away. Symi is mainly a destination for day tourists from Rhodes. For them, a visit to Panormitis Monastery and the listed harbor is a must. The monastery offers sweeping panoramic views and, as a former place of pilgrimage, is a historical sight.
