Red Funnel originally began as a mail and freight company, carrying mail and freight between the UK mainland and the Isle of Wight. Over the years, however, the company has evolved into a major passenger transport provider, introducing a range of services that benefit tourists and commuters alike. With a fleet of modern vessels, including both high speed catamarans and conventional car ferries, Red Funnel now provides a fast and reliable link to the Island.

The company's main route runs between Southampton and the port of East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. This route is around 18 kilometers long and the crossing takes between 25 and 60 minutes, depending on the type of ship. Red Funnel offers both a high-speed connection for pedestrians and a car ferry. The fast catamarans are particularly popular with day trippers, while the conventional ferries offer greater capacity and can carry cars, trucks and motorhomes.

Red Funnel is strongly integrated into the Isle of Wight community and is committed to promoting tourism on the island. In addition to the transportation service, the company offers package deals and collaborations with local businesses that give visitors discounts on attractions and activities on the Isle of Wight. This collaboration supports the island's economy and offers travelers a convenient way to discover the Isle of Wight's many attractions and leisure activities.
