Puttgarden is located in the north of the island of Fehmarn. The town is primarily known for its ferry connection to the Danish town of Rødby, but has more to offer: a floating department store, the oldest church on the island of Fehmarn and a highlight for bird lovers: Puttgarden lies on the flight path of the cranes when they fly from Europe to Scandinavia. This is why the ferry route from Puttgarden to Rødby is called the "bird flight route").
