The crossing from Harlesiel to Wangerooge takes about an hour and can be made several times a day, usually once a day in winter. The timetable is determined by the tides, as the ferries operate depending on the tide and therefore depart at different times each day.

Wangerooge Port Information

Arrival by train

Those arriving by train should first travel to Oldenburg and then continue by train to Sande, Friesland. From there, the Tidebus takes holidaymakers to Harlesiel. It is also possible to travel via Norden, which is the best connection, especially for holidaymakers from the Ruhr area. From Norden, take the bathing bus to Harlesiel.

Parking facilities for the car

Parking spaces and garages are available at the jetty in the harbor to park your car during your stay on the island. Reservations are not obligatory, but are recommended for the garage spaces in summer.

Luggage must be checked in

Luggage may not be taken on the ferry but must be checked in. In the port of Wangerooge, luggage is automatically loaded onto the island train and handed back to its owners at the station. If you don't want to take your luggage to your accommodation yourself, you can make use of a luggage service.

With the island train to the station

At the ferry port of Wangerooge, the island train is waiting to take holidaymakers through the salt marshes to the island village at a leisurely 20km/h. You should allow 90 minutes for the entire journey by ferry and island train.

The island of Wangerooge

The island of Wangerooge, around seven to eight kilometers from the mainland of Lower Saxony, is the second smallest inhabited island of the East Frisian Islands. It is just under eight square kilometers in size and has around 1,300 inhabitants. Wangerooge has held the title of "seaside resort" since 1804 and historically belongs to the Frisian Jeverland.

The car-free island offers visitors unspoiled nature, long sandy beaches and numerous leisure activities. The main attractions include the island railroad, the West Tower and the Old Lighthouse. Wangerooge is known for its hospitality and wellness facilities, which attract spa guests in particular. The island also has a rich flora and fauna, including protected bird species and rare butterflies. There are also numerous opportunities for sports enthusiasts.
