Due to its ferry connections to Travemünde and Rostock, the southern Swedish city of Trelleborg plays an important role for all German vacationers who are on their way to Sweden by car or bicycle. On this page we introduce you to the city and its sights and give you an overview of all the routes by ferry to Trelleborg.

Sights in Trelleborg

For most holidaymakers, Trelleborg is just a stopover - wrongly so, as Sweden's southernmost city looks back on an eventful history and is definitely worth a short detour. Trelleborg is also highly recommended for a first Swedish breakfast after arriving on the ferry or a last coffee before the journey home to Germany.

St. Nicolai Church

St. Nicolai's Church on Trelleborg's old market square (gamla torget) dates back to the first half of the 13th century. It was given its present form by extensive renovations at the end of the 19th century. The foundation walls of a Franciscan monastery, which was once located on Gamla Torget, also date back to the 13th century.

Sjöormsfontän, the "sea serpent fountain" with a sculpture by the Swedish sculptor Axel Emil Ebbe (1868-1941), is located on Stortorget ("large square") in the center of the old town. Further sculptures by this famous Swedish Art Nouveau artist can be found in the Trelleborg Art Hall on the eastern edge of the city park.

Trelleborg Viking Castle

Trelleborg owes its name to a ring castle built by the Danish king Sven Forkbeard, the remains of which were only found in 1988 at the highest point of Trelleborg's old town. A reconstruction of this "Trelleborg" can be seen today in the middle of the town center, where Viking games, concerts and theater performances take place in the summer.
