The ferry port on the island of Pianosa offers connections to the island of Elba and the ferry port of Piombino on the Italian mainland. The two routes Pianosa - Rio Marina and Pianosa - Piombino are offered several times a week by the Toremar shipping company.

Not far from the island of Elba is the small island of Pianosa. Like Elba, Pianosa is part of the Tuscan Archipelago, but with an area of around ten square kilometers, it is much smaller. It is known for being the flattest of the Tuscan islands. Visitors are won over by its extensive beaches of white sand and unique turquoise sea water. The entire island and the surrounding sea are part of a nature reserve, which is why Pianosa can only be visited as part of a guided tour of the island. Another reason is its existence as a prison island. Prisoners from Elba are still housed there today. However, you will search in vain for a prison. Instead, the prisoners run a restaurant and are allowed to move around freely.
