Pantelleria Port Information
The volcanic island of Pantelleria belongs to the Sicilian province of Trapani, but geographically it is almost in Tunisia. The island owes its existence to volcanic activity 300,000 years ago. To this day, fumaroles and hot springs are evidence of its origins. Today, the island is primarily inhabited by Italians. It was originally inhabited by Arabs, who once called Pantelleria the daughter of the wind. The few tourists who come here encounter numerous natural spectacles such as the turquoise lake called the Mirror of Venus or the Elephant Arch, a rock formation similar to an elephant's head. Culinary lovers will also get their money's worth. Pantelleria spoils you with specialties such as the dessert wine Passito or the island's characteristic caper cream Salsa ai Capperi di Pantelleria.
