Norderney Port Information
Where can tickets be purchased?
Tickets for the crossing can be purchased online before departure or at the ferry terminal. If passengers are traveling without a vehicle, the ticket is not linked to a fixed crossing. Only those traveling with a vehicle must book a specific connection.
Rail travelers can book the ticket directly to Norderney and do not need to purchase an additional ticket for the crossing.
Day trippers (i.e. outward and return journeys are booked for the same day) also pay the guest contribution (currently €3.20) with the ticket. Anyone staying on the island for longer will receive the NordernyCard, which serves as a ticket. It also stores the guest fee, which must be paid at the machines at the ferry terminal before leaving the island. Rail travelers receive the NorderneyCard at the ticket control on the island and use it only for the visitor's fee, but not as a ferry ticket.
Arrival by car
The best way to travel by car is via the A31 to the Emden-Nord exit. From there, take the B210 and the B72 to Norddeich. The way to the harbor is signposted. You can take your own vehicle to the island or park it in one of the parking lots.
Arrival by train
Norddeich-Mole railroad station is located directly at the jetty. There are several trains a day from different parts of Germany.
Parking at the ferry terminal
Norderney is not a car-free island, but a car is hardly necessary on the island and also not useful, as traffic in the town is very limited, especially in the summer months. So if you want to cross over without a vehicle, you can do so in one of the three parking lots at the harbour. Some of the areas are under video surveillance and parking spaces can be booked in advance.
If you don't want to walk from the parking lot, you can take the bus that runs between the parking lot and the jetty for €1.
Numerous private providers offer additional, covered parking spaces.
Luggage
Luggage is taken on board by the passengers themselves. There are racks where luggage can be stored during the crossing.
From the island harbor to the town
If you arrive on the island without your own vehicle, you can simply walk from the island harbor to the town. However, there are also three bus routes that take passengers to different parts of the town.
Island Express fast ferry
The fast ferry operated by the Cassen-Tours shipping company can take up to 11 passengers from the Norddeich ferry terminal to Norderney in just 25 minutes. The crossing requires a reservation. Tickets can be purchased online. Depending on availability, tickets can also be purchased at the ticket counter or on the ferry. Cars cannot be transported and one piece of luggage per person is included in the price. Please note: A Deutsche Bahn ticket is not valid for the island express.
The island of Norderney
The 26-square-kilometre island of Norderney boasts long beaches, colorful salt marshes, dunes and the impressive Wadden Sea. The island was created by the Marcellus Flood of 1362 and the Petr Flood of 1651. Today, Norderney is the oldest North Sea spa in Germany and boasts a rich history.
Heinrich Heine, who wrote his cycle "The North Sea" here, left his mark on the island's literary heritage and is honored by the locals with a monument in front of the spa theater. Norderney was a popular vacation destination for the nobility early on, including King George V of Hanover, who made the island his summer residence.
Historic buildings such as the spa hotel and the lighthouse from 1874 with its spectacular view characterize the image of the island. The lighthouse emits its light in an unusual way, the secret of which has not yet been revealed.
The island offers a variety of experiences, from the local history and spa museum, which provides an insight into the history of the island, to the thalassotherapy treatments, which use the natural resources of the sea to promote health. Guests can enjoy the healing effects of nature on ten different thalassotherapy trails.
Sights include the historic windmill from 1862, the Imperial Post Office and the Lifeboat Museum, which documents early sea rescues.
Norderney is a unique destination that impresses with its idyllic landscape and historical flair. Those who respectfully explore nature and history will enjoy the magic of the island to the full.
