The port of Aarhus is one of the largest ports in Northern Europe and the largest container port in Denmark. With a quay length of 8.8 kilometers, a quay wall of 5.3 kilometers and a water depth of 14 meters, the port can accommodate ships of all sizes, including the largest container ships in the world. The port plays an important role in international trade, as around half of all containers handled in Denmark are handled here. In addition to its function as a container port, the port of Aarhus is home to around 150 companies with several thousand employees. It is also an important ferry port with connections to the island of Zealand and serves as a port of call for cruise ships. The history of the port dates back to Viking times and today cruise ships regularly call at the port, including AIDA ships for the first time in 2016.
