The almost 50 km² island of Nisyros is located south of Kos, not far from the Turkish mainland. The whitewashed houses with their colorful shutters are typical of Greek villages. The narrow streets and alleyways invite you to stroll and linger. The numerous floor mosaics, also known as hohlakia or chochlakia, are a real eye-catcher. The no longer active volcano of Nisyros is worth a visit, as is the idyllic mountain village of Nikia, like Emporios, a village in the proverbial slumber of Sleeping Beauty, or Pachia Ammos, the most beautiful beach on Nisyros.
