Hvar is one of Croatia's most popular vacation islands. No wonder, as it is one of the largest and most beautiful islands in the country. Unlike many other Croatian islands, Hvar can look back on a long history of tourism. The first hotel opened here at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, the island has lost none of its appeal. In summer, thousands of bathers flock to Hvar and in winter, many spa vacationers visit the island because of its very pleasant climate. After all, with over 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, Hvar is one of the sunniest islands in Europe. The many yachts in Hvar's harbor are proof that the island is still popular with the jet set.
