During the start-up phase, the line received government support (eco-bonus) to reduce Sweden's greenhouse gas emissions. Hansa Destinations is the largest project to be supported with an eco-bonus in order to achieve Sweden's climate targets.
The investment will enable Rederi AB Gotland and Hansa Destinations to shift freight from land to sea transportation, which is expected to reduce emissions by at least 20 percent. In addition, the new line offers carriers a cost-effective transportation alternative that increases both flexibility and efficiency. As the truck drivers can have their rest period on board the ship, the drivers have the opportunity to drive longer distances directly upon arrival in Rostock or Nynäshamn.
